Ex-Panthers Quarterback | Quadraplegic | Determined to fight

[info]itwontstopme: [From Wikipedia] Beginning the fall 2006 season of Dillon Panther football, Jason Street was QB1. He was being recruited to attend Notre Dame University to play football. He received hundreds of recruitment letters from various colleges. In his early days, Jason played football since PeeWees and was previously coached by Coach Taylor. Wendell Holmes was one of his wide receivers and said that Jason was the best quarterback he ever played with. He broke his neck during the game against Westerby damaging his spinal cord from C7-T1 rendering him an incomplete quadraplegic. After rehab he joined a quad rugby team and tried out for the national team that was going to compete at the Paralympics in Beijing China. He did not make the team and instead returned to Dillon and became an assistant coach to the Panthers football team.

Before his accident, Jason dated captain of the Panthers cheerleading squad, Lyla Garrity. However, they painfully broke up when Jason discovered she had been cheating on him after his accident with his best friend, Tim Riggins. They later reconciled when Jason decided he wanted to give their relationship a second chance. He soon proposed to her and they became engaged, but the relationship was not destined to last when Lyla caught Jason kissing another girl and she ended it. Jason and Tim eventually mended the rift in their friendship and became best friends once again.

A year after his accident, Jason was having some trouble remaining adjusted to his still new Quad status. He stayed on as an assistant coach to the Panthers until a clash with the new coach over his skills as a professional vs. his skills as a team mascot arose. This, paired with the simultaneous excitement/disappointment of regaining some movement in his right hand and being told by the doctor that this was no sign of a full or even partial recovery, sent Jason on a sudden road trip to Mexico for experimental stem cell surgery. Initially only Tim accompanied him on this sojourn until he realized how risky this surgery really was a called Lyla down to Mexico as backup. After assessing the situation, Lyla and Tim decide to take Jason on a 'booze cruise' to talk him out of the risky surgery involving Shark cells. Jason tells them that he would rather die than remain in the chair and is further angered by Tim's declarations that it won't fly. Frustrated with further crushing of his dream of movement, Jason pitches himself off the boat when they turn their backs, only to have a "come to Jesus" moment when he decides he would rather live in the chair than die. He manages to propel himself to shore and once he's reunited with Lyla and Tim they return to Dillon.

Back in Dillon, Jason turned 19 and his mother threw a party where they watch old game tapes. The party ends with Jason giving Coach Taylor his old football things for the next generation to use. After going on a online dating site, Jason has a disastrous with a woman who has a rather unappealing fetish. He persuades the waitress at the restaurant to make an excuse for him and eventually leaves and spends the night with her instead. His parents were frustrated and Jason proposes it was time for him to move in with his ex-rehab roommate. Jason's one night stand, Erin, soon showed up and informed him that she was pregnant. It was not expected that Jason would be able to father a child after his accident, so he asked Erin to have the baby because he thought it was a miracle.

Erin gave birth to Jason's son, Noah, but soon informed him she was moving back to New Jersey to be close to her family and was taking the baby with her. She told Jason he could come visit whenever he wanted. After much thought and determination, Jason made the difficult decision to leave Texas and move to New Jersey to be close to his son and make an attempt to provide for him. He scored a job as an entry-level sports agent in Manhattan and commutes from Montclair in New Jersey to New York for his job during the week.

- Jason was written out of 'Friday Night Lights' when he moved to New York in Season 3

character notes

This is a muse journal for character Jason Street of the Friday Night Lights fandom. I have decided to write Jason because I adore his character but I don’t feel the show covered nearly enough of his character development by way of how he felt becoming a quadraplegic at 17, being knocked down in his prime, and learning to cope with the disability. I feel a lot more of his personal experiences and feelings could have been covered and as such, this journal will encompass the show’s plot, but entirely from Jason’s point of view and will attempt to go into more depth with his character.

But, he has use of his arms! He should be paraplegic! Actually, no. He IS quadraplegic. Please see my OOC NOTE HERE regarding this.

Also, with Jason now written out of the show as of episode 3x08, his prompts will encompass the entirety of his canon and at this muse’s conception, he will still be in New York in his new job. However, my plan is to veer away from this and write Erin out of his life and have him stay connected to Dillon in some capacity in the future as I don’t feel his character was rounded off or resolved appropriately by shipping him off to New Jerser/New York just because the writers couldn’t find a niche in their show for a quadriplegic ex-High School football star (IMHO).

Therefore, this journal will commence immediately following Friday Night Lights episode 3x08, where Jason goes to New Jersey to be with his son and begins work as a sports agent in Manhattan, New York.
